BOONE, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2010) - Senior ETSU cross country standout Caitlyn Epps (Cookeville, Tenn.) picked up right where she left off from a year ago, as the Cookeville, Tenn. native led the Lady Bucs across the finish line at the Covered Bridge Open Friday evening in Boone, N.C.
Epps, who was the top ETSU runner in three of the four meets in 2009, placed 31st overall with a time of 19:14 in the 5000m race, located on the Don Kennedy Trails at the ASU State Farm Cross Country Complex.
"This was a good start to our season and we are excited to improve on these results as we gear up for the conference championship in the months ahead," commented assistant coach Josiah Leuenberger. "Today showed us things we need to work on in practice and I was very pleased with how our newcomers performed."
One of those new faces included the solid performance of sophomore Ashley Powell (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.). Powell made her Lady Buccaneer debut by clocking in at 20:39.
Unfortunately, due to a timing error at the meet, the men's results were not available to the media.
The ETSU cross country team returns to action in two weeks when the Bucs travel back to Boone for the Mountaineer Open on Friday, Sept. 17.
