CLEMSON, S.C. (October 18, 2003) - The East Tennessee State women's cross country team took seventh place in the 5K race at the Clemson Invite.
"This was a disappointing performance for us in light of how well we ran at Furman last week," commented assistant coach Michelle Byrne. "I hoped we would come in and step it up a notch."
Despite the team performance, individually there were some good things that happened for the Buccaneer squad.
Sophomore Katie Marshall (Metuchen, N.J.) led the Bucs with her 37th place finish and a time of 19:44. Jennifer Habbestad (Tampa, Fla.) came in second on the team and continued to show improvement with her time of 19:53 for a 44th place finish in her second race of the season.
Byrne said, "If we are going to contend in the conference we need to be more competitive in the head to head competition and not concerned with what the time on the clock says."
Up next for both the men's and women's cross country teams is the Southern Conference meet held in Davidson, N.C. on Nov. 1st.
