Newcomers Pave the Way for Bucs at Mountaineer Open
Friday, September 16, 2011
BOONE, N.C. (Sept. 16, 2011) – A pair of newcomers led the way for the ETSU men’s and women’s cross country teams as sophomore Anders Ludvigsen (Odense, Denmark) and freshman Isabelle Grosskopff (Telgte, Germany) were the first Buccaneer runners to cross the finish line on Friday evening at the Mountaineer Open.
Ludvigsen, who was the first runner in Blue and Gold to cross the line two weeks ago at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, finished Friday’s 6400m race in 16th place with a time of 20:12.7. Meanwhile, Grosskopff made an impressive turnaround after her first collegiate race back on Sept. 2 on the same terrain. Grosskopff shaved over a minute and a half off her time from two weeks ago as the rookie ran the 5K course in 18:39.2 to finish 14th overall. The native from Telgte, Germany finished 55th with a mark of 20:17.6 in her ETSU debut at the Covered Bridge Open – which was also a 5K race.
A pair of local products also turned in respectable outings for the Bucs on the men’s side. Sophomore Sean Duffy (Jonesborough, Tenn.) finished 28th with a time of 20:34.8, while freshman Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn.) was right behind in 29th place. Chase finished the course in 20:35.1.
Overall, the men finished fifth in the team scoring as the 26th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes won the meet, finishing with a score of 21 points.
On the women’s side, Chelsea Clark (Fairmont, W. Va.) placed four spots behind Grosskopff in 18th after clocking in at 18:50.
Likewise, the women also finished fifth with Ohio State making it a clean sweep as the Buckeyes garnered 15 points.
The ETSU men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when the Bucs compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
