Junior took race title this past Friday at the WCU Catamount Classic
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 22, 2014) – After winning her second race of the season this past week at the WCU Catamount Classic, ETSU junior Katie Hirko (Oley, Pa.) was named the Southern Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
In Cullowhee, North Carolina for the Catamount Classic, the Pennsylvania native paced the competition with an 18:21.96 time in the 5K to place first overall and help the ETSU women take the team title. This win marks the second-straight race in which Hirko has come away on top following taking the individual title at the UNCG Spartan Invitational on Sept. 26 in Kernersville, North Carolina.
This accolade is the junior’s second SoCon Runner of the Week honor and her fifth career league Runner of the Week recognition dating back to ETSU as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Hirko previously was named Runner of the Week this season on Sept. 24 after a strong performance at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational five days prior.
The ETSU cross country program will have an additional week of preparation before competing in the Southern Conference Championships on Friday, Oct. 31, in Kernersville, N.C.
