Monday, November 17, 2003JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 17, 2003) - East Tennessee State University women's golf coach Stefanie Reynolds announced Monday that University High School senior Cynthia Phillips (Johnson City) has signed a national letter of intent to play golf at ETSU. Phillips, a two-time All-Conference and All-District selection in Class A, finished 5th at the TSSAA state championships as a sophomore to earn All-State honors. In the summer of 2002, Phillips captured the consolation championship at the Women's Western Jr., chipping in on the first playoff hole to beat the defending Illinois state high school champion. Reynolds said Phillips is a quality player and an excellent student. Currently, the senior holds a 4.0 grade point average at UH. "Cindy is the type of player and the kind of student we want in our golf program," Reynolds said. "She has the ability to score and contribute to the team immediately once she arrives here in the fall of 2004. Our program continues to make positive strides and I think Cindy's decision is just another one of those steps."
