SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 18, 2007) - The final round of the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup did not treat many golfers friendly Tuesday afternoon, as only 10 participants fired an even-par or lower final round, including ETSU's Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia). Jansone, last season's Atlantic Sun Freshmen of the Year, finished the third round with an even-par 72, which helped the Bucs end tied for sixth with South Florida.
Sophomore Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) led the charge for ETSU, finishing tied for 25th with a final score of 227 (74-74-79). Junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) and senior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) followed right behind O'Sullivan, placing 27th overall. Senior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) ended in a six-way tie for 32nd; while Jansone climb 18 spots on the final day, and finished tied for 38th after her solid final round performance.
Notre Dame won both the team and individual title, as the Fighting Irish beat host and defending champion Louisville by three strokes. So-Hyun Park edged out Taryn Durham (MTSU) by one stroke, posting a 3-under 213. Both Park and Durham were the only golfers to finish the tournament under par.
The ETSU women's golf team will be back in action next Monday, Sept. 24, when they head to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the 2007 Myrtle Beach Classic. Be sure to visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on women's golf and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
