        SUNSET BEACH, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2008) - Junior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) fired a 1-over-par 73 to finish two strokes out of the individual lead while helping power the ETSU women's golf team to a tie for fourth place following first round action Friday in the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate.

            The Buccacneers, who are playing in their first tournament of the 2008-09 season, are six strokes behind first round leader and host team Elon, which fired a 303 for the day. Meanwhile, Bethune-Cookman and Murray State tied for second and are five strokes back of the Phoenix. On the individual leaderboard, Murray State's Megan McKinney is leading at 1-under 71, followed by Jansone at 73 and Elon's Tara McFadden at 2-over 74.

"Laura was the Atlantic Sun Conference champion last year and she's picking up where she left off a year ago," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "She played well today and as a team we are in contention, which is where we want to be heading into the next round."

Along with Jansone, ETSU teammates Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) both tied for 18^th with scores of 78, while freshman Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) and junior Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport) both tied for 37^th.
