WILMINGTON, N.C. (May 17, 2010) - When ETSU sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) steps onto the tee box Tuesday morning at the Country Club of Landfall, she will become the first women's golfer in Buccaneer history to participate in the NCAA Championships.
With a first round lead thanks to a carded score of 64 in the NCAA East Regional, Muehl proved she has the game to do more than just "show up" this week. However, at this event - hosted by UNC Wilmington - she will be facing the best players in the college game for 2009-2010.
Muehl, who earned her spot in the finals by finishing fourth on the individual leaderboard, will not be joined by her ETSU teammates. However, even though the Bucs' 15th place finish in the regional was not good enough to advance, Muehl's historic effort was not lost on ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton.
"This is huge for our team," Shelton said. "It's just another step in the process of building the type of program we want at ETSU. We're so proud of Nina and what she has accomplished this year."
Muehl will tee off on No. 10 at the Country Club of Landfall at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday morning. Fans can stay up-to-date on her efforts by watching live results at Golfstat.com, or visiting ETSUBucs.com for a complete wrap up at the end of each day's action.
