GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 11, 2011) – ETSU freshman Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) continued her impressive play Tuesday during third and final round action in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club, firing a final round 73 to finish sixth on the individual leaderboard.
Wahl’s efforts helped power the Buccaneers to a sixth place finish in the 20-team field, with ETSU ending the tournament 22 strokes back of team champion Maryland. Individually, Wahl – whose final card read 72-70-73=215 – finished the event just three strokes back of Old Dominion’s Samantha Morrell, who captured top honors.
“We are very excited to have Gabriella break out with a great performance like this,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “This shows how promising the future is for both Gabriella and our team, especially when you have a freshman that can lead your team like this at a tournament.”
Along with Wahl, other ETSU results included a tie for 35th by sophomore Sian Evans (Gillingham, England), while junior transfer Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa) ended the tournament tied for 38th.
The Bucs will return to action Oct. 23 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. For more on ETSU women’s golf throughout the season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women’s golf link.
