JOHNSON CITY (May 1, 2012) – ETSU golfer Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) is not finished competing this season.
Thanks in part to her back-to-back individual victories in the final two tournaments of the spring, Wahl learned Monday evening that she had received an individual at-large bid to the NCAA Central Regional which will be played May 10-12 at the Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity to continue my college season for a few weeks,” said Wahl, who captured both the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate and the Atlantic Sun Conference championships to end the spring season. “Going to nationals and having the opportunity to represent ETSU is an honor. I’m really excited.”
ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton was pleased with the news.
“We are extremely excited that Gabriella will have this opportunity to represent ETSU while competing for a regional championship,” Shelton said. “Her accomplishing this as a freshman should show her potential for a storied career here at ETSU.
“She has proven to herself that she can compete with anyone and I know she will enter this event with every intention of winning and advancing for a chance to compete for a national title.”
The A-Sun freshman of the year and a first-team all league pick, Wahl ended the 2011-12 season with Bucs’ lowest stroke average at 74.2.
Her season also included record-breaking performances, such as a school mark for three-round score with a 212 at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. Her 5-under-par 67 in the first round of A-Sun Championships also matched that event’s best single-round score ever.
