EAST LANSING, Mich. (Sept.14, 2013) – ETSU senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) finished the day at 7-over-par 151 to tie for 19th individually and lead the Buccaneers during first and second round play Saturday in the Mary Fossum Invitational at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
Evans and the Bucs are currently seventh in the 15-team field heading into Sunday’s third and final round, just behind teams such as Miami, Northwestern, Oregon, Notre Dame, Ohio State and host Michigan State. The Spartans finished the day at 8-over-par 584 as a group and hold the top spot on the team leaderboard by eight strokes over the Buckeyes.
“I was very pleased with the performance of our ladies today,” said ETSU women’s golf head coach Stefanie Shelton. “They never let up and played confidently throughout the 36 holes, which is great for our first tournament of the year. It is a very strong field of teams and we hope to play well tomorrow and beat a few higher-ranked teams.”
Individually, Michigan State’s Liz Nagel fired rounds of 68 and 75 to end the day at 1-under-par 143 and holds a one-stroke advantage over Ohio State’s Illen Domela and Michigan State’s Allyssa Ferrell.
Along with Evans, sophomore Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) finished at 153 (77-76) on the day to tie for 27th, while a trio of fellow Buccaneers ended the day tied for 34th.
