Brooks plays well, Lady Bucs tied for 3rd at Southern Miss event
Monday, April 07, 2003 HATTIESBURG, Miss. (April 7, 2003) - Thunderstorms may have postponed the second round of the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational Monday at the Shadow Ridge Golf Club, but the East Tennessee State Univesity women's golf team certainly took advantage of the first round.Tying for 5th place on the individual leaderboard with a 4-over-par 76, freshman Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario Canada) helped put the Lady Bucs in their best position of the season after one round of play, as ETSU tied for 3rd with Samford University at 21-over. Along with Brooks, sophomore Alysa Few (London, Ontario Canada) is currently tied for 12th (38-39=78 +6), while sophomore Robin McCarley (Johnson City) and freshman Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) both stand in a tie for 15th at 7-over. Freshman Laura Diaz (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) rounded out the Lady Bucs' effort tied for 28th at 9-over. While ETSU head coach Stephanie Reynolds was pleased with her team's efforts, home-standing Southern Mississippi took advantage of the home-course advantage and leads the team event by 11 strokes over Middle Tennessee State. The top four players on the leaderboard are all from USM, with Jennifer Keefe leading all players after shooting a 1-under 71. The Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational will wrap up today with the completion of Monday's suspended second round. The third round has been cancelled.
