MURRAY, Ky. (April 6, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University women's golf team made an extremely strong showing in the Big River Telephone Company Lady Racer Classic, finishing in third place behind Kentucky and the host team Murray State following final round play Wednesday at the Miller Golf Club. The Lady Buccaneers were led by sophomore Laura Diaz (Aquadilla, P.R.), who put together the best three-round score of her career and finished tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard. Meanwhile, fellow sophomore Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) finished tied for 11th just one stroke back of her teammate. Both Barton and Diaz could not catch the individual medalist, Murray State's Cuyler Hedley, who finished in first place at 9-over-par for the tournament. As for the rest of ETSU's squad, senior Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville, Tenn.) finished tied for 19th, junior Danielle O'Reilly (Vancouver, British Columbia) finished tied for 24th and junior Robin Downes (Johnson City, Tenn.) ended the day in 39th.
