MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Sept. 5, 2003) Posting a team score of 32-over-par 320 Friday in the first round of the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic at the Bay Tree Golf Plantation, the East Tennessee State University women's golf team finds itself currently 15th among a 24-team field.
The Buccaneers' Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville) was a bright spot, finishing with a 2-over-par 74 and placing tied for fifth after the first day of play. Fletcher trails James Madison's Carol Green, who shot a 1-under-par 71 and leads by one stroke over the Coastal Carolina duo of Dannielle Renner and Natalie Cruse at 72.
In the team competition, Coastal Carolina, which makes its home in nearby Conway, S.C., currently leads the event with a team score of 8-over-par 296, a total of 10 strokes ahead of second-place James Madison and Middle Tennessee State.
Along with Fletcher, the Bucs Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) posted an 81, while teammates Laura Diaz (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) and Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario) posted an 82 and 83, respectively. Junior Danielle O'Reilly (Vancouver, British Columbia) wrapped up the Bucs team score with an 87.
