ETSU women defend championship, take 16-stroke victory over N.C. State
Ringdahl finished tied for second on Sunday. Sunday, March 06, 2005 SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 6, 2005) - Thanks to second-place finishes from junior Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) and freshman Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden), the East Tennessee State University women's golf team made it two years in a row as champions of the Coca-Cola Terrier Intercollegiate Sunday at the Carolina Country Club. The win marks ETSU's third team championship in the past year. With a two-round score of 631, the Lady Bucs overcame first-day leader Gardner-Webb and bested second-place North Carolina State by 16 strokes to capture the team championship. On the individual leaderboard, Berry College's Nicole Wildes held on to her first-day lead and took the title by two strokes over Barton, Ringdahl, and N.C. State's Lauren Harling and Colby Cobb. Along with Barton and Ringdahl, senior Danielle O'Reilly (Whistler, British Columbia) enjoyed a Top 10 finish in ninth place, while freshmen Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) and Cindy Phillips (Johnson City, Tenn.) ended the day tied for 16th and 21st, respectively.
