San Juan, P.R. (February 26, 2006) - The ETSU Lady Bucs shot their best round of the tournament in Sunday's final round with a score of 311, but could not improve their 13th-place position at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
The University of Florida topped the field of 16, defeating second-place Purdue by two strokes, shooting a three-round total of 885 (299-292-294—885), and Arkansas' Amanda McCurdy took medalist honors shooting a two-under 214 for the tournament (72-68-74—214).
The Lady Bucs were paced by senior Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.), who finished tied for 35th with a three-round total of 229 (75-78-76—229). Sophomore Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) tied for 50th with a 236 (79-77-80—236). Sophomore Natialia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) and freshman Lucy Gould (Bargoed. Wales) each shot their best rounds of the tournament, finishing one-stroke apart from each other in 69th and 66th place, respectively. Gould shot a final round 77 to finish at 243 (87-79-77—243), and Giraldo closed out with a 78 to end with 244 (84-82-78—244). Senior Laura Diaz (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) finished off the Lady Buc scoring effort with an 80th-place finish, scoring 249 (81-84-84—249).
The Lady Bucs return to action March 10 at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, S.C.
