WALLACE, N.C. (March 27, 2007) - ETSU junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) fired an impressive 1-under-par 71 to finish tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard and help propel the women's golf team three spots to an eventual second-place finish on the final day of play at the Lady Seahawk Invitational Tuesday at the River Landing Golf Club.

ETSU posted the second-best team score of the day, finishing at 299 and ending the tournament seven strokes back of host and team champion UNC-Wilmington. The Lady Seahawks finished at 884 for the event, followed by ETSU (901), East Carolina (908) and Maryland (909). The Lady Bucs also finished 16 strokes better than Atlantic Sun rival Campbell, who placed sixth overall.

"Coming into this tournament Natalia had been struggling and she really had to earn her spot on this trip," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "We made some adjustments to her grip and she really showed a lot of determination out there. She was one of the best players in the fall, and this week she proved to herself and her teammates that she's again one of our best players.

"This is the kind of team play we came to expect in the fall and it's exciting to have the girls playing well together again. We were prepared to play and we were confident while we were playing this week."

Giraldo was certainly not alone in her efforts. The Bucs placed four players in the Top 16, with freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) and sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) finishing tied for 14th, with freshman Sinead O'Sullivan finished tied for 16th. Giraldo ended the event 10 strokes back of individual champion Emily Klein, who made it a clean sweep of the top honors for UNCW.

Fresh off back-to-back second place showings, the Lady Bucs will return to play next Monday at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, Ga. Fans can stay informed on ETSU women's golf by visiting ETSUBucs.com and clicking on the women's golf link.
