Lady Bucs finish 10th at Chrysler Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2007) - The ETSU women's golf team wrapped up third and final round play in the Chrysler Challenge Monday at the Baytowne Golf Course at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, finishing their first event of the spring in 10th place.

 

It was a disappointing first event for the Buccaneers, who entered the spring season with high hopes after the most successful fall campaign in school history. The Bucs did get a solid performance from junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia), who finished tied for 27th on the individual leaderboard, but the Bucs were well of the pace of team champion and host Florida State, which finished 24 strokes better than second place North Carolina.

 

"We've got to use this tournament as a learning experience, get back home and get to work on correcting the problems we had this weekend," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "This team showed what it is capable of back in the fall. We need to get back to that confident style of play."

 

Along with Giraldo, fellow junior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) tied for 30th, while freshman Sarah Jane Sinard (White Pine) posted a tie for 37th. Caroline Westrup of Florida State took home the overall individual title with a 2-over-par 215.

 

The Bucs will return to action on March 16-18 at the Shamrock Intercollegiate hosted by Winthrop University in Tega Cay, N.C. For more on ETSU women's golf visit ETSUBucs.com.
