Jansone impresses with second-place showing, ETSU squad currently 10th at Lady Pirate Invitational

            GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 20, 2006) - Freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) matched her career best by firing a 1-under-par 71, leading the ETSU women's golf team in Friday's first round of the Lady Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina University at the Bradford Creek Golf Course.

 

            Jansone and three other players are currently tied for second on the individual leaderboard, just one stroke back of current leader Sara Hunt of Birmingham Southern. On the team leaderboard, Hunt's Birmingham Southern squad made it a sweep after posting a first round score of 288 to lead UCF by three strokes.

           

            The Bucs, who are looking for their second tournament victory of the year, are currently in 10th place after posting a round of 303 on Friday. Along with Jansone, sophomore Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) is tied for 38th following a 76 in the first round, while sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) and junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) are tied for 54th with 78s.

 

            The Lady Pirate Invitational will continue with second round play scheduled for Saturday and final round action set for Sunday. Fans can get updates on the Bucs progress this weekend by visiting ETSUBucs.com at the conclusion of each day's play.
