KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Feb. 24, 2008) - ETSU sophomore Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport, Tenn.) tied the program record for birdies in a round with six and she joined fellow sophomore Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) with a pair of 1-over-par 73s, as the ETSU women's golf team finished sixth in Sunday's first round of the Cuthbert Cup hosted by College of Charleston at the Cougar Point Golf Course.
The Bucs, who finished at 299 for the day, are 12 strokes back of first place College of Charleston. ETSU is just five strokes back of second place Western Carolina. On the individual leaderboard, three different players are tied for the lead at 3-under-par 69, with Eisenhower and O'Sullivan tied for ninth at 1-over-par.
"For our first round of the spring I saw a lot of positives out there," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "It could have been even better, but I think the ladies were encouraged with their play. We're looking forward to getting out there again tomorrow."
Along with Eisenhower and O'Sullivan, senior Maria Ringdahl (Farjestaden, Sweden) finished at 76 on the day, while sophomore Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) and junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) posted 77s.
