GREENVILLE, S.C. (Oct. 21, 2007) - Powered by another strong effort from sophomore Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia), the ETSU women's golf team posted an impressive third place finish Sunday in the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted at the Furman University Golf Course.

Facing their toughest field of competition so far this year, the Bucs ended the event behind team champion TCU and second place Notre Dame. Most encouraging for ETSU was finishing just two strokes back of the Fighting Irish, who are currently ranked No. 15 in the nation.

Meanwhile, on the individual leaderboard, Jansone finished in sole possession of second place with a three-round score of 219 (71-73-75), just two strokes back of champion Carmen Perez-Narbon of UNCW. This marks the fourth time in her ETSU career that Jansone has finished second or better.

"We beat seven teams ranked higher than us this weekend," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds Shelton. "I'm really proud of the girls and I think we're all really excited to get back out there at Kiawah next week. This shows us what we're capable of, because finishing third in this event is like winning the others we've played in so far this season."

Along with Jansone, other ETSU finishes of note included a tie for 20th by senior Maria Ringhahl (Oland, Sweden) and a tie for 23rd by junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales).

The ETSU women will return to action in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. beginning Monday, Oct. 29. Visit ETSUBucs.com for up-to-date statistics and news on ETSU women's golf throughout the 2007-08 season.
