Friday, April 02, 2010

OXFORD, Miss. (April 2, 2010) - Senior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) posted scores in the Top 8 on the individual leaderboard, helping the ETSU women's golf team to a strong second-place showing following first round action in the Rebel Intercollegiate Friday at the Ole Miss Golf Course.

O'Sullivan fired a first round score of 1-under-par 71 to finish tied for fourth, while Muehl finished tied for eighth at even-par 72. Both ETSU players are chasing a trio of competitors that posted 2-under 70 to tie for the individual lead.

In the team competition, the Bucs finished at 4-over 292 as a squad, and are just two strokes behind first round leader and 27th-ranked Tulane. ETSU is in front of schools such as host Ole Miss, Missouri, No. 18 Texas A&M, Augusta State, Kansas and Oklahoma.

"I was really proud of our team's effort. It was a great day," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "Sinead and Nina continue to play really well, and we posted a very solid score today. We just need to stay focused and take it one day at a time."

Along with O'Sullivan and Muehl, ETSU sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) and senior Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport) finished tied for 21st and 23rd, respectively. Vizcarrondo finished at 2-over 74 while Eisenhower posted a 3-over 75.

Second round play will continue on Saturday, followed by third and final round action on Sunday. Fans can watch live scoring of the event at Golfstat.com, or get a complete wrap up of the day's play by visiting ETSUBucs.com and clicking on the women's golf link.
