MIAMI, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2010) - Senior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) both fired first round scores of 75 and tied for 18th on the individual leaderboard, leading the ETSU women's golf team to a fourth place standing on the team leaderboard following opening round action in the Hurricane Invitational Sunday at the Don Shula Country Club.
The Bucs finished with a team score of 304, and are 12 strokes back of first place Georgia State. Individually, San Diego State's Christine Wong fired a first day score of 69 to lead by three strokes over four other players.
"I'm pleased with our start today and it was nice to get out and compete," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "But we need to stay focused for the next two days and get our spring season off to a strong start. We are in contention, which is where we expect to be."
Along with O'Sullivan and Muehl, senior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) finished tied for 25, while sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) tied for 44th.
The Bucs will continue with second round play on Monday, followed by third and final round action on Tuesday. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women's golf link.
