Shelton adds four new faces to go along with talented returning stars

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 25, 2010) - ETSU women's golf coach Stefanie Shelton announced Wednesday that she has completed her roster for the 2010-11 season, adding four new faces to join returning standouts such as senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) and junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain).

The new names appearing on the roster this season include Sian Evans (Gillingham, England), Pearl Asaka Sim (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Lauren Smith (Cramlington, England) and Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany).

"We needed to reload and I think we accomplished that with this group," Shelton said. "Each of these young ladies has enjoyed success at varying levels of competition, and when it comes to what we are looking for in this program, I believe they are all a good fit."

Evans was a member of the England Girls U18 Elite Squad and holds Faversham Ladies Course record with a 66. She has also enjoyed her share of success at a young age, winning the Kent Schools Girls County title, the Faversham Ladies Club championship, the Sundridge Ladies Scratch-McCart Trophy, and the Kent Ladies County title.

Steinfeldt has qualified for the German National Championship since becoming eligible. In addition, she won the Estonian Amateur title in 2010, and placed second in the same event back in 2009.

Meanwhile, Smith is returning from injury after missing her sophomore season at West Texas College. At WTC, Smith led the Golfstat Cup Rankings for all junior college players during the fall semester of her freshman season, and she posted a low round of 2-under-par 70 at the West Texas Country Club.

As for Sim, she was a star at Santa Barbara Community College, winning the 2008 California State Individual Championship and leading her team to the California state title. She was also the Western State Conference Player of the Year, the California State Player of the Year, and her junior college team's MVP.

The women's golf team opens their fall season Sept. 26-28 at the Starmount Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
