JOHNSON CITY (Oct. 4, 2010) - Prior to beginning their 2010-11 season last month, the ETSU women's golf team did their part over a two week period to help the local community.
The team spent several days collecting food and money for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, and presented those donations two weeks ago at the Food Bank's annual golf classic at The Ridges Golf and Country Club.
"This is another great example of ETSU's contribution to the welfare of the Northeast Tennessee region," said Food Bank Executive Director Rhonda Chafin.
ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton said it was a pleasure to do something for the community.
"Doing community service and giving back is part of what it means to be a Buccaneer," Shelton said. "This what we teach our student-athletes at ETSU - that it is important to think of others and to do what you can for the community."
The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service efforts, with 100 percent participation in such events by scholar-athletes, coaches and staff members.
