JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 9, 2010) - Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) spent four years rewriting the women's golf record books at ETSU. She's doing it again.

Jansone, who ended her time at ETSU just seven months ago, participated in the 2010 LPGA Futures Tour Qualifying School last month in Florida. Over 308 players from 38 nations competed in the event, which was played at three different courses throughout Central Florida.

The former ETSU star finished tied for 69th in the field, posting a four-round score of 12-over-par 300 (75-78-71-76). An Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year and two-time league individual champion, Jansone becomes the first ETSU women's golfer to ever earn a spot on either of the two major women's professional golf tours.

Jansone and the other Futures Tour qualifiers must wait until the end of this week's LPGA Qualifying School to learn whether they will earn exempt or non-exempt status. In other words, Jansone must wait to learn exactly how many events she will be able to attend.

"After the LPGA qualifying, they will send our status," Jansone said. "I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to play in all the tournaments, but my plan will be to play in as many as possible. I have spent so much time and effort on my game the last several years while at ETSU, so it's nice to move one step forward."

As for setting a new standard at ETSU for women's golf, Jansone said it's an honor.

"It's always nice to be the first to do something," she said. "I hope I'm not the last, and I want to set this as a goal for the other ladies in the program now and those that follow."

ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton said this is another example of the ever-improving women's golf program.

"This is just one more great accomplishment for the program," Shelton said. "We're so proud of Laura and all she did for ETSU women's golf, and we're happy to see her career continue to flourish. We wish her the best."
