DELAND, Fla. (April 11, 2011) - Carding a first round score of 1-over-par 73, ETSU senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) led the way for the ETSU women's golf team during opening day action in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships Monday at the Victoria Hills Golf Club.

Muehl finished tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard and is three strokes back of Mercer's Kimberly Graff, who captured the first-round lead thanks to a 2-under-par 70. Graff holds a one stroke lead over a trio of players tied for second.

As a team, the Buccaneers are tied for third place along with defending champion Stetson. The Bucs and Hatters are just four strokes back of leader Kennesaw State, which posted a team score of 6-over-par 294.

"I'm so proud of the first round effort by the ladies today," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "This was our best team effort of the year with everyone contributing. We are looking forward to each day we have to compete for this championship, and we want to be the 2011 champions. We have to more days to do it."

Along with Muehl, ETSU got a solid team effort as three other Bucs tied for 12th at 3-over-par 75. That group included junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain), and freshmen Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany).

ETSU will continue with second round play on Tuesday, followed by third and final round action on Wednesday. Live stats and results from the event can be accessed at Golfstat.com, and ETSUBucs.com will have a complete wrap up each evening following play.
