JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2014) – Former ETSU women’s golfers Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) and Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) are continuing to make their professional dreams a reality.
Back in December at the Lalla Aicha Tour School final qualifying in Marrekech, Morocco, both Jansone and Muehl posted qualifying scores that assured them both of membership for the 2014 Ladies European Tour. The duo reached that goal despite playing in a field of 95 palyers from 34 different countries.
"Nina and Laura are two of the most influential golfers to play for our women's golf program,” said ETSU women’s golf head coach Stefanie Shelton. “They both led our program to record wins and rankings during their respective careers.
“Pursuing a career in professional golf requires a winner's mentality and commitment. Nina and Laura stood out among collegiate golfers and I have no doubt that both of them will have success as professionals. I'm extremely proud of them."
Jansone was a three-time Atlantic Sun Conference first team selection and won the A-Sun individual championship in 2008 and 2010. She also led the Bucs to their first ever conference championship in 2008.
Meanwhile, Muehl was a first-team All A-Sun selection during her career, and was the first ETSU player to ever earn an individual invite to the NCAA Championships during the 2009-10 season. During that 2010 campaign, Muehl posted the nation’s lowest individual round of the year with a 64 in the first round of the NCAA Regionals.
The 2013-14 version of the ETSU women’s golf team will open its spring season Feb. 9 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla. For more on ETSU women’s golf throughout the spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women’s golf link.
