JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 11, 2014) -- East Tennessee State University women’s golfer Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany) has been selected as the State of Franklin Bank/ETSU Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month, an award recognizing the exemplary community service efforts of ETSU student-athletes.
When the senior from Eschweiler, Germany isn’t practicing her golf swing or studying for one of her two majors, she is giving back to the Tri-Cities community in many different fashions. Some of her recent community service endeavors include: working with Habitat for Humanity and Harvest Hope – in which she gave back to those who are less fortunate – participating in the 8th Annual All-Star Reading Night at North Side Elementary, and helping raise $30,000 at the ‘Make-A-Wish Chocolate Festival’.
Steinfeldt’s coach, Stefanie Shelton, is proud of all the work she has done whether it’s on the course or in the community.
“Not only do student-athletes have the opportunity to excel in their sport during their time here at ETSU, but they also benefit greatly from their involvement through community service. Student-athletes face the time demands of workouts, practice, competitions, and travel, while also achieving in the classroom. To have 100-percent of all student-athletes at ETSU reach out and participate in community service, shows the well-rounded men and women the university is producing. Larissa is a great example of this.”
Congratulations to Larissa Steinfeldt on winning the State of Franklin Bank and East Tennessee State University’s Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month award for the month of January.
State of Franklin Bank and ETSU are proud to recognize Steinfeldt for his efforts in the Johnson City community.
