WOLCOTT, Colo. (Sept. 25, 2013) – Following three straight days of strong performances, the ETSU women’s golf team left the Red Sky Golf Club and the Golfweek Conference Challenge even more encouraged about the prospects for the upcoming season.

The Buccaneers ultimately finished Wednesday’s third and final round tied for fourth on the team leaderboard along with No. 35 Denver, while ending the tournament ahead of teams such as No. 36 SMU, No. 44 TCU, No. 50 San Jose State, No. 54 Florida International and No. 58 Indiana.

Individually, ETSU junior Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) carded a final round score of 5-over-par 75 to post a team-best, seventh-place finish.

“This team is capable of surpassing all previous women’s golf teams at ETSU,” said head coach Stefanie Shelton, whose team is currently ranked 59th in the latest Golfweek.com rankings. “We will gladly take a fourth-place finish in this field as a huge positive, and we look forward to more great finishes to come.

"Individually, we’re really proud of Gabi for a seventh-place finish here, and we know she has even more great golf ahead of her.”

While the Bucs finished fourth at 917 (305-304-308), No. 29 Pepperdine cruised to a 36-stroke victory over No. 25 UC Davis, posting a final score of 869. Individually, Grace Na of Pepperdine made it a sweep with a two-stroke victory over teammate Marissa Chow.

Other ETSU results included a team-best round of 75 by senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) on Wednesday, which gave Evans a tie for 18th on the final leaderboard. Meanwhile, fellow senior Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain) finished tied for 22nd.

The Bucs will return to action next Monday at the Waverly Invitational in West Point, Miss. For more on ETSU women’s golf throughout the 2013-14 season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women’s golf link
