WEST POINT, Miss. (Oct. 1, 2013) – Posting four solid scores and placing two players in the Top 10 individually, the ETSU women’s golf team moved from eighth place to fifth place during second round action Tuesday in the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational at the Old Waverly Golf Club.

The Buccaneers were led by senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England), who carded a team-best score of even-par 72 and finished the day tied for seventh place at 144 for the tournament. Meanwhile, junior Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) fired a 2-over 74 to tie for 10th at 146.

Mississippi State continues to dominate the team competition and finished the day at 7-under 569 for the tournament, 10 strokes ahead of second place East Carolina. The Bucs, who improved on their team score from Monday by six strokes and ended Tuesday’s second round at 294, are just three strokes out of third place for the tournament.

“The ladies made a lot of birdies today and we had great rounds throughout the team,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “We lost some shots on the tough finishing holes, but we see the potential for another great round tomorrow.

“We have been playing consistent, par golf on difficult courses, so this golf course has challenged us to visualize and trust a more aggressive game while remaining patient.”

Other ETSU results Tuesday included a solid 1-over-par 73 from senior Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain), which moved her into a tie for 17th. Meanwhile, sophomore Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) is tied for 38th.

On the individual leaderboard, Mississippi State’s Jessica Peng and Ally McDonald continue to sit atop the field, with Peng holding a slight one-stroke lead over her teammate.
