GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 7, 2013) – Posting a first round team score of even-par 288, the ETSU women’s golf team started at the top of the leaderboard Monday in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club.
And the Buccaneers stayed there.
The No. 43-ranked Bucs followed that morning round with another solid effort in the afternoon, and the team will hold a one-stroke edge over host East Carolina entering Tuesday’s third and final round.
“It was a long, challenging day for us once again as we battled some tough weather conditions, but the ladies had an amazing round of even par this morning and they stayed with it to remain at the top of the leaderboard in the afternoon,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “I’d like to see us leave it all out there tomorrow, and bring home a team victory.”
Individually, the Bucs were led by sophomore Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia), who fired a career-best, 5-under-par 67 in the first round and ended the day in third place on the leaderboard. Chin was joined in the Top 10 by junior Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany), who carded rounds of 72 and 76 to end the day tied for ninth at 4-over-par for the event.
Middle Tennessee’s Avery George currently holds a one-stroke lead over Chattanooga’s Jordan Britt for the top individual spot, with Chin just two strokes back of the George. Other ETSU results included a tie for 25th by senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and a tie for 30th by senior Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain).
