TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2015) – After being challenged by a competitive fall campaign, the ETSU women’s golf team will return to the course for the spring portion of its schedule on Friday, as the Buccaneers open play in the Florida State Match-Up Tournament at the Southwood Golf Course.

The three-day event will feature a talented and competitive lineup of teams which includes Virginia, Mississippi State, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Missouri, South Carolina, and host Florida State.

Last spring, the Bucs captured another conference title, earned a fourth trip to the NCAA regionals, sent an individual to the NCAA national championships, and set a program record for final national ranking. However, with several new faces and additions to the team’s lineup, head coach Stefanie Shelton said the fall season was a learning experience.

“The team is very ready and excited to begin play this weekend,” said Shelton, whose team finished last season ranked No. 41 out of 260 teams in Division I play. “I feel like this team has matured since the fall; understanding how to manage their expectations and grow confidence in their ability to play this game with better consistency. By staying in the moment and learning each day on the course, we should see some highlight performances from each individual. We’ve had a good preseason and are eager to step onto the first tee against the best in the country on Friday.”

The ETSU lineup for this weekend’s event will include junior Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia), sophomores Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) and Rachel Pollock (Guelph, Ontario), redshirt freshman Dominika Czudkova (Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic) and true freshman Allyson Dunn (Kingsport, Tenn.)

A year ago, Chin captured the individual title at the conference championships and was a first-team all-conference pick, while Dobele was an all-freshman team selection and posted the team’s second-best finish at the conference championships.

Pollock, Czudkova and Dunn all showed potential during the fall season and are capable of being consistent contributors throughout the year.
