JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 13, 2015) – The ETSU women’s golf team will start their fall schedule on September 14 in the 2015 Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Colorado State will be hosting the two-day tournament and has 17 participating teams.

The Team

The Bucs only have five players on the roster this season. ETSU has four returning players and adds one freshman, Hee Ying Loy (Taman Sri Kulai Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia). Loy comes from Malaysia, where she is a member of the Malaysian National Team. She has also earned high honors in tournaments before attending ETSU. Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) is the only senior on the roster this season. Chin leads the Bucs with the lowest stroke average last season with an average of 75.3 strokes per 18 holes. Rachel Pollock (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) and Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) make up the only two juniors on the team. Pollock improved her stroke average from her freshman to sophomore season by four strokes, and Dobele returns to ETSU after winning the 2015 Latvian Junior Open Championship by carding a 77 in August. Dominika Czudkova (Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic) is the only returning freshman this year, and she shot her best round in the SoCon Championship with a 218-combined score.

Academic Success

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association honored the Buccaneers for their academic achievement in July. The 2014-15 team was ranked eighth nationally with a combined grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.731. The award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf programs with the highest collective average team GPAs based on the team’s rosters last season.

Six golfers were also honored last season by being named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll as they individually achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Schedule Preview

The team tees off September 14 in Fort Collins, Co. and will each play 36 holes. The Bucs will continue play on September 15 and will play 18 holes.

ETSU will participate in five tournaments in September and October. The first tournament will be hosted by Colorado State University. The team will then tee off on September 20 in Greenville, S.C. in the 2015 Lady Paladin, which is hosted by Furman University. The Bucs will then travel to Charleston, S.C. to play in the Charleston Southern University Wendy’s Invitational on October 5, and on October 12, East Tennessee State will participate in the Pinehurst Challenge on the Pinehurst #6 course in Pinehurst, N.C. This tournament is hosted by the College of Charleston. The women will end the fall schedule in a three-day tournament at Kiawah Island, S.C. starting on October 25.
