Spartanburg, S.C. (March 16, 2016) – Announced Wednesday, Hee Ying Loy (Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia) earned the Southern Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 9-15 by finishing tied for 2nd at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
Loy carded three rounds of even golf or better at the Forest Hills Golf Club. She opened the tournament with a 1-under 71 and finished the last two rounds on Saturday with an even 72 and a 3-under 69 to place her tied for second place at the outing, which is her best finish this season.
In her third round, she inked eight birdies, and she highlighted her outing by carding six straight birdies from holes 9-14, which is a school record. Loy outpaced five golfers who were ranked in the top 100 nationally by at least eight strokes.
After the outing in Augusta, she dropped her average score to 73.52, which is the best on the team.
The Bucs finished in fourth place out of 16 teams by shooting 14-over 878, which bested three top-35 teams nationally.
Loy and her ETSU teammates’ next outing starts on March 28 in Kennesaw, Ga. for the Henssler Intercollegiate for the two-day tournament.
