Women’s golf ready for Red Raider Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2016) – The ETSU women’s golf team will travel for its first tournament of the season at the Red Raider Invitational with 36 holes on Sept. 12 and 18 holes on Sept. 13 at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, TX.

What’s New

Head coach Stefanie Shelton adds experience to the coaching staff with the addition of former ETSU golfer, Chloe Garner. Garner played two seasons for the Blue and Gold and was a member of the 2013 A-Sun Championship team. Garner won her first two professional long drive competitions this summer and set a long drive record of 370 yards.

ETSU brings in a pair of freshmen: Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India) and Yeji Ahn (Changwon-City, South Korea). Ahn has an average 18-hole score in the upper 70s, and Kedlaya averages 77 per outing.

Previewing Red Raider Invitational

2016 All-Southern Conference and All-Freshman member Loy Hee Ying (Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia) looks to continue off her consistent success as she finished the year with a 73.77 score per 18 holes. She recorded a season and team-low 3-under, 69 twice at The Fall Invitational and 3M Augusta Invitational.

Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) will start her senior season with momentum as she led the Bucs in the SoCon Women’s Golf Championship finishing tied for fifth individually. She carded a 5-over, 221 in the two-day event in Pooler, Ga.

The Red Raider Invitational will be held at The Rawls Course, which is a par 72, 6,542-yard course. The tournament field features three teams in the top-50 in the final 2015-16 Golfweek rankings: Oregon (18), Texas Tech (36), and Augusta (49).
