Bucs conclude day one at Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, TX. (Sept. 12, 2016) – After two rounds at the first day at the Red Raider Invitational, the ETSU women’s golf team sits in seventh place with Loy Hee Ying (Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia) leading the way tied for 14th individually on Monday.

The Bucs have three golfers in the top-17 with Loy Hee Ying pacing the Bucs at 5-over 149 in the first two rounds. Loy carded a team-low 1-over 73 in her second round after she parred or better on 15 holes. She finished her first round with a 4-over 76 after carding a pair of birdies in her first seven holes.

Senior Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) and freshman Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India) each shot 3-over 75s in their first two rounds at The Rawls Course. Dobele sunk seven birdies in the 36 holes including five in her first round. Kedlaya played consistently throughout the day in her collegiate debut as she sank five birdies and parred 21 holes.

ETSU is 29-over 605 and sits in seventh place, and the Bucs are eight strokes away from cracking into the top five. New Mexico State University leads the tournament as it finished 9-over 585 and leads by three strokes over No. 36 Texas Tech. No. 18 Oregon is seven strokes out of first after it cut the team score by nine strokes from the first to second round.

Texas Tech has two players at the top of the leaderboard: Lauren Mason and Gabby Barker. The duo each shot one 2-under 70 in one of their rounds on day one, and Mason capped off her day with a 3-under 141 after shooting 1-under 71 in her first round. New Mexico State has four individuals in the top-12, which is led by Kennedie Montoya and Kristen Cline.

The final 18 holes for the Buccaneers will start at 8:30 a.m. (central time), and ETSU is paired with 8th place Cincinnati and T-9th North Florida.
