SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 15, 2017) – Sophomore ETSU women’s golfer Loy Hee Ying (Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia) was named the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week after her performance where she won the individual title at the River Landing Classic this past weekend in Wallace, N.C.
Loy opened the outing shooting a tournament and career-best – 7-under 65. In that round, she recorded six birdies including an eagle on the par-5 hole 15. The 65 round was the lowest tournament score in history and is a SoCon-best for the season.
She rounded out her tournament showing by recording a 1-over 73 in the second round and a 3-over 75. She finished the outing at 3-under 213, which gave her a five-stroke victory over Hailey Hrynewich of Ohio and Jackie Rogowicz of Penn State.
This was Loy’s first-ever collegiate victory, but she has finished runner-up in two tournaments this season at the Johnie Imes Invitational and the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. Since she stepped on campus last year, she has posted ten, top-10 finishes and six, top-5 results.
This is the second weekly conference award in her career as she claimed this honor nearly a year ago on March 16, 2016.
Loy and the ETSU women’s golf team will return to the links on Friday as the Bucs will travel to Augusta, Ga. to compete in the three-day Augusta Invitational, which is played at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
