JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 2, 2017) – Two weeks away from being away from the links, the ETSU women’s golf team will head to the Web.com Intercollegiate in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., which is a two-day tournament starting Monday, April 3.
About the Bucs
As a team, ETSU has finished in the top-5 in two of the last three events. The Bucs had their best finish this season at the River Landing Classic in Wallace, N.C. where they finished second. In the most recent outing, ETSU finished tied for seventh out of 14 teams at the highly competitive Augusta Invitational in Georgia.
This season, Loy Hee Ying (Baru Kulaijaya, Malaysia) leads the Blue and Gold as she has finished in the top-20 in all seven events this season including four top-5 finishes this year. The sophomore averages a 72.24 strokes per outing this season, which is the best on the team. At the River Landing Classic, she won her first collegiate tournament as she posted a 3-under 216. Highlighting that tournament was a tournament-best 7-under 65 in the first round of the outing.
Also having strong seasons this year are seniors Rachel Pollock (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) and Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) as well as freshman Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India). Dobele has only finished outside of the top-30 three times this season, as she is second on the squad with a scoring average of 75.52. Both Kedlaya and Pollock average just over 76.5 strokes per round. Kedlaya posted her season-low round at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island classic at 2-under 70, and Pollock has carded a season-low 1-over 73 three times this year including twice in the first round.
Previewing the Web.com Intercollegiate
The Web.com Intercollegiate is hosted by Jacksonville University, and it is the sixth year the tournament has been played at the Marsh Landing Country Club. The two-day outing will consist of 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 on Tuesday.
Marsh Landing Country Club is a par-72 5,967-yard course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The outing consists of 16 teams including Southern Conference rival Chattanooga.
