Four Bucs earn WGCA All-American Scholar honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (July 3, 2018) – The East Tennessee State University women’s golf team had four student-athletes earn Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar honors as the committee released its recipients on Tuesday.

Hee Ying Loy (Johor, Malaysia), Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India), Yeji Ahn (Chang Won City, South Korea)and Kornbongkoat Sararat (Nongkhai, Thailand)all earned the prestigious academic award.

“Earning a degree is very important to our ladies. We encourage and support our ladies to be true student-athletes,” said head coach Stefanie Shelton. “I can't help but be amazed at the hard work and dedication our athletes demonstrate.”

Loy, who earned her third consecutive All-Southern Conference selection and represented the Blue and Gold in the NCAA Regional for a second straight year this past season, is majoring in accounting and has totaled a cumulative GPA of 3.938. Loy is a two-time SoCon Honor Roll member, while also earning SoCon All-Academic Team honors and receiving the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal in 2016-17.

Kedlaya, a sophomore business major, has posted a 3.772 cumulative GPA in her first two years as a Buccaneer. Last season, Kedlaya earned the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal, while also landing a spot on the SoCon Honor Roll.

Ahn, who was also selected to the SoCon Honor Roll last year, is a business major and has registered a 3.832 GPA, while Sararat just completed her first season in the Blue and Gold this year with a 3.885 GPA in business.

A total of 1,011 women’s golfers earned the prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of collegiate athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is a 3.50.
