Bucs to play 36 holes Monday; 18 holes Tuesday at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2019) – The ETSU women’s golf team makes its season debut this week as the Buccaneers begin the 2019-2020 campaign at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship on Monday morning from the Cherokee Country Club.


The tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday from the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. … The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

The teams will tee off Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The course is par-71, 5,900 yards.

Kent State returns to defend its title as the Golden Flashes won by five strokes over MTSU and six shots over Charlotte and Illinois last season. 

Last season, ETSU finished eighth in the 17-team field with Hee Ying Loy (Johor, Malaysia) pacing the Blue and Gold with a top-15 finish … Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Repbulic) put together a strong finish en route to placing in the top-20 …  The Buccaneer junior fired a 4-under 67 in the final round to climb 37 spots up the leaderboard. 

This marks the third straight year and fourth time in the last six seasons the Blue and Gold are playing in this tournament. 

Tennessee is the tournament host. 


Joining ETSU and host Tennessee in this week’s field are: Kent State, Augusta, Maryland, Memphis, LSU, MTSU, Charlotte, Texas-San Antonio, Mercer, Tulane, Eastern Kentucky, Chattanooga, Southern Mississippi and South Dakota State.

Four teams are ranked  in the-50 and 11 are ranked in the top-75  of either the Golfstat or Golfweek Rankings,  including  the Bucs coming in at No. 71 … The other teams ranked in the top-75  include:  No. 10 Kent State, No. 34 Tennessee, No. 44 Maryland, No. 48 LSU, No. 52 Augusta, No. 56 Charlotte, No. 59 Memphis, No. 60 UTSA, No. 63 Mercer and No. 64 MTSU. 


The Buccaneer lineup consists of No. 1 Tereza Melecka, No. 2 Warda Amira, No. 3 Kornbongkoat Sararat, No. 4 Ankita Kedlaya and No. 5 Rimsha Ijaz.

ETSU’s lineup features one senior, two juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.

The Bucs are paired with Memphis and South Dakota State on Monday.
