ETSU Women's Basketball
The ETSU women’s basketball team has been on fire over the last month and a half. The Lady Buccaneers won the 2007-08 Atlantic Sun regular season and tournament title, earning them their first ever bid to the NCAA Tournament next weekend.
In Nashville, ETSU beat Mercer (83-62), Lipscomb (84-64) and Jacksonville (75-72) to win the tournament crown. Four Lady Buccaneer players were named to the all-tournament team, including sophomore Latisha Belcher (Martinsville, Va.), who took home MVP honors. Belcher averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.3 steals in the three games. Joining Belcher on the all-tournament team were Michele DeVault (Columbus, Ohio), Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) and TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.).
As a team, the Lady Bucs have won eight straight games and 15 of their last 16. The current eight-game win streak also ties a program record, along with the 21 overall victories thus far.
ETSU now awaits its opponent, date, and location for the NCAA Tournament. All those questions will be answered this Monday when the tournament committee announces the pairings live on ESPN at 7 p.m.
