Statesboro, Ga. (October 25, 2002) - Georgia Southern used a strong second half to defeat East Tennessee State 3-0 in Southern Conference women's soccer action Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (10-4-1, 6-2-1), who led 1-0 at halftime, out-shot the Buccaneers (6-8-1, 3-5-1) 15-4 while scoring a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes.
Amanda Bernard netted the first GSU score of the half at the 65:06 mark as she took a feed from Genevieve Ward sending a shot from 12 yards out into the back of the net. Lindsey Cummings also earned an assist on the play.
In the 72nd minute of action, Bernard earned an assist on the Eagles' final goal as she fed Jessica Rice to finalize the score at 3-0.

For the game, Georgia Southern out-shot East Tennessee State 20-4 and owned an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Buccaneer keeper Heather Sanden (Manassas, Va.) made eight saves for the Buccaneers while Eagle keeper Tanya Woehr had four.
The Buccaneers will remain on the road as it faces off against the College of Charleston at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Georgia Southern returns to action Sunday, October 27 when it hosts Southern Conference foe Appalachian State at 1:00 p.m.
