-East Tennessee State's women's soccer team pulled out a thrilling come from behind victory to defeat conference rival Chattanooga Sunday afternoon.
In the first period of play Chattanooga wasted no time getting on the board as a shot by Sari Laukka hit the cross bar and was rebounded by Amelia Fogleburg who rifled the ball into the corner net at the 9:15 mark.
In the second period Chattanooga had an opportunity to widen their lead as an ETSU foul gave the Mocs a penalty kick at the 46:01 mark. The Fogleburg PK went wide left and the Chattanooga lead remained 1-0. ETSU's Erin Ashton
(New Bern, N.C.) put the Buccaneers on the board in the 66th minute as an Ericka de Paula
(Boca Grande, Fla.) pass found Ashton inside the box for the finish. At the 88:30 mark Ashton was pulled down inside the box and a penalty kick was awarded. Senior Elizabeth Smith
(Arden, N.C.) was called on to take the PK and she finished to give ETSU the lead and the win.
"We didn't organize our attack as well as we have in the past," said ETSU head coach Heather Henson
. "Chattanooga is a strong team, their backs are very solid players."
Chattanooga out shot the Bucs 22-10. ETSU keeper Heather Sanden
(Manassas, Va.) recorded 10 saves for the Buccaneers. Chattanooga goalie Rawlslyn Ray had three saves on the day.
ETSU will travel to Georgia Southern on Friday October 25, for the 3:00 match up. Chattanooga will host Mercer Tuesday October 22, at 6 p.m.
