JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 23, 2005) - The ETSU women's soccer team played tough defense against A-Sun conference champion Florida Atlantic University on Sunday, but fell 1-0 to the Owls. FAU improves to 14-3-1, 9-0-1 in the A-Sun, and ETSU drops to 8-9-0, 4-5-0 in the A-Sun. The Buccaneers became the only team in the A-Sun to hold FAU to one goal in a game.
Freshman goalkeeper Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn) earned eight saves for the Bucs.
"FAU used the style of play that we are used to going against and our defense was ready for it," said head women's soccer coach Heather Henson. "Erin did a good job coming out and protecting our goal to keep FAU to one."
The Owls recorded their thirteenth shutout of the season against the Bucs.
The lone goal of the game was made by Danielle DiLeo of FAU at the 37:29 mark. This was DiLeo's seventh goal of the season. FAU outshot ETSU, 21-3, maintaining control of the ball the majority of the game.
The Bucs are on the road Wednesday, October 26, at 7 p.m. against Kennesaw State before returning to Johnson City to take on Tennessee Tech on Saturday, October 29, at 2 p.m. for senior day.
