JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 10, 2009) - The ETSU women's soccer team and head coach Heather Henson announced Friday, that incoming freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Meigs (Albuquerque, N.M.) has pledged her commitment to join the Bucs this fall. The newest addition to the ETSU family joins previous committed players Tori Head (Kingsport, Tenn.), Morgan Thomas (Maryville, Tenn.), Charlotte Summerall (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Kathy Musacchio (Nashville, Tenn.) to close out the Bucs 2009 recruiting class.

"We are excited to add Kelsey to the 2009 incoming freshman class," said Henson. "She will continue to give depth to the keeper position. She understands the demands set on student-athletes in the area of academics, athletics and community service. Kelsey has experienced a number of pressure situations in state championship matches, both in high school and with her club team that will benefit her as she makes the transition to the collegiate level."

Meigs comes to Johnson City after a strong prep career for Bosque High School in Albuquerque, N.M. Under head coach Ed Cole the four-year starter helped lead Bosque to a 72-21 career record in the New Mexico Athletic Association. During her time at BHS, the Bobcats won both a 2005 district title and the 2008 NMAA State Championship.

In addition to her high school career Meigs was a standout on her local Alameda Flash club team. Under club coach John Sheppard the U-18 Flash put together back-to-back appearances in both the 2008 and 2009 New Mexico State Cup. In 2008 Meigs led the Flash to her second state title of the season, while in 2009 Alameda lost in the title match, finishing second.

Off the field Meigs boasted a 3.25 GPA and was a member of the International Honor Society for Music, the 2008 Honor Roll and Tri-Mexico Music Honor Society. Outside the classroom Meigs found time to volunteer as a camp counselor, while building homes for Hubble House and Operation Smile. In addition to her academic and community service awards, the daughter of Daniel and Marion Meigs is an accomplished fiddle player and plans to major in both Music and English at ETSU.
