JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 15, 2009) - After dominating King College 5-0, Thursday the ETSU women's soccer team will close out its preseason as the Bucs host regional rival Winthrop for a 2:00 p.m., contest Sunday at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
In its first contest against the Lady Tornadoes, earlier in the week, ETSU rolled out to a quick 1-0, lead as junior forward Terri Miller (Cape Coral, Fla.) found the back of the net off of a outstanding touch pass from freshman forward Morgan Thomas (Maryville, Tenn.). As the second half opened ETSU pushed four more goals past King, with Miller earning the hat trick with two more scores in a span of 10 minutes.
Along with the three goals on the day Miller found another outstanding connection with freshman forward Tori Head (Kingsport, Tenn.). Head assisted on Miller's first goal of the second half, in addition to posting her first career goal of her own, with Miller assisting on it with a long pass over the King defense.
Sunday's contest will be the first of the preseason for Winthrop, who is 0-2-0 all-time against the Bucs. Overall, the Lady Eagles were picked sixth in the 2009 Big South Conference women's soccer preseason poll. Winthrop returns 12 lettermen off of its 2008 squad that posted an 8-10-2 overall record.
ETSU and the women's soccer team encourage all kids entering the eighth grade and under to join the Bucs at Sunday's game for free. In addition to the free attendance, fans will have the chance to win a number of outstanding prizes, jump and play in inflatables, meet Bucky and his friends and participate in micro soccer games on the field after the game with the ETSU players.
