Pair of Lady Bucs recognized by NSCAA and College Soccer 360
Kansas City, Kan. (Dec. 8, 2011) – Adding on top of the ETSU women’s soccer team’s historic 2011 season, senior Genna Petersen (Loveland, Ohio) and freshman Jenna Caudle (Middletown, Md.) were named to the NSCAA Division I All-Southeast Region Third Team, the association released on Wednesday.
“I’m very proud of both Genna Petersen and Jenna Caudle,” said ETSU head coach Adam Sayers. “They were both consistently excellent all season and are thoroughly deserving of the recognition. What was most pleasing about both was their all-around performance. Both contributed in many ways to our success this season not only offensively, but defensively as well.
“In Caudle’s case, as a lone centre forward, her overall game was very beneficial to us. She held the ball up well, brought others into play and her movement off the ball was excellent, allowing others to get into goal scoring positions. Likewise with Petersen, when we lost possession, had to drop back into our defensive shape and there was a lot of work to be done defensively, she certainly fulfilled that aspect of her role very well. When we won the ball back and were in transition, both players were very dynamic in their movement and very effective in their use of possession. In many cases they would attract the attention of defenders that allowed other players on the team to flourish. We scored some very important goals due to their movement on and off the ball.”
Petersen led the Lady Bucs with 11 goals in 2011, tying for second all-time at ETSU, and added five assists to register 27 points. Her single-season point total ranks in a tie for fourth in program history. Caudle, in just her first season, notched 10 goals, adding one assist, which included goals in six-consecutive games from August 26 through September 23.
The duo joins Mercer’s Olivia Tucker and Jacksonville’s Liz Fink on the All-Southeast Third Team. FGCU’s Katherine Correllus was given Second Team honors. Of the Atlantic Sun student-athletes recognized, ETSU was the only school with multiple honorees.
With their performances, Petersen and Caudle were also named to the College Soccer 360 Dynamic Duo list for the 2011 season. The list showcases Division I women’s soccer teams with multiple double-digit goal scorers. Combining for 21 goals scored, Petersen and Caudle earned ETSU its first pair of double-digit goal scorers since Jordan Monty and Terri Miller in 2007.
