Johnson City, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State freshman Erin Lotzer netted her team-high third goal of the season -- a game-winner -- in leading the Bucs to a 4-1 win against UNC Asheville at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex on Sept. 20.
Playing in her 61st consecutive match, senior Rebekah Eisenberg opened the scoring at 13:02 when she headed in a blast from junior Lena Summers. UNC Asheville goalkeeper Caroline Jacobson was leaning the wrong way and couldn't snag the redirection. ETSU (4-3) took a 1-0 lead to the break.
The Bulldogs (1-4-1) knotted the score 1-1 in the 59th minute when Kelsey Dawson cleaned up a shot that had bounced over the head of ETSU's sophomore keeper Lauren Fannon.
The score remained tied until 64:04 when freshman Andrea Brown put a rocket off the far post that Lotzer gathered and put into the back of the net.
Junior Kristin Redfern tallied her first goal of the season with a 20-yard blast off a pass Brown in the 86th minute. Less than two minutes later junior Courtney Edde closed the scoring when she headed in a corner kick from junior Lisa Gallagher.
Fannon recorded two saves and improved to 3-0 on the season while UNC Asheville's Jacobsen made four saves.
"This team is starting to understand what it can do," head coach Heather Henson said. "Although we still have a lot of work to do, we are becoming more consistent in the attacking zone."
The Bucs are off to their best start in program history. They have already surpassed last year's win total.
ETSU plays its next two contests on the road -- at UT-Martin on September 23 and at Murray State on September 24.
