Northwestern Takes Consolation Match from ETSU, 6-1

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Freshman Brittany Hung scored two goals and had an assist in the first half to help Northwestern (La.) State build a 4-0 lead by intermission and the Demons cruised to a 6-1 victory over East Tennessee Sunday afternoon in the consolation match of the Country Inn & Suites Invitational at Tennessee Tech. East Tennessee (0-2) got its goal on a breakaway by senior Lisa Gallagher at 70:31, before the Demon's added the final tally on a long shot by Marshall in the final minute of play. Northwestern dominated play and owned a 29-15 margin in shots, and 12-1 in corner kicks. Three Demons split time in goal, with starter Tiffany Swingler playing the first half and making six saves. ETSU starting goalkeeper Heather Sanden made seven saves in the first half, while Lauren Fannon played the second half and made five saves. Hung's pass to Nina Myullyluoma in the goal mouth led to a 1-0 lead for NWSU just 8:42 into the game, and 12 minutes later Hung slapped in a rebound on a shot by Myullyluoma for a 2-0 lead. Shannon Tenney took a header cross from Hillerie Marshall 10 minutes later and made it 3-0, and Hung finished the first half scoring at 38:20 with a pass from Kathryn Latiolais. Northwestern State (1-1) built the lead to 5-0 with a goal by Bryndie Maag at the 52:23 mark, with assists from Missy Payne and Jacqui Lawrence. Hung and junior defender Jill Lowe were named to the all-tournament team for the Demons, while ETSU's Andrea Brown and Kristin Redfern earned all-tourney honors.
